Discover The Crab House

If you’re craving buttery lobster tails, messy crab legs, and the kind of seafood boil that demands extra napkins, The Crab House at 1190 E 1st Ave, Broomfield, CO 80020, United States is where you want to be. I’ve eaten my way through plenty of seafood spots across Colorado, and finding a place this consistent-especially this far from the coast-is rare. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is casual and welcoming, more neighborhood hangout than fancy white-tablecloth restaurant. That relaxed energy makes it easy to settle in, roll up your sleeves, and get to work on a bucket of crab.

On my first visit, I went straight for the seafood boil, which is clearly the heart of the menu. You choose your seafood-snow crab, king crab, shrimp, crawfish-then pick a seasoning blend and spice level. I opted for the house blend at medium heat, and it delivered that perfect balance of garlic, butter, and Cajun spices without overpowering the natural sweetness of the shellfish. According to the National Fisheries Institute, Americans are eating more seafood than ever, with shrimp and crab ranking among the top favorites nationwide. After tasting the freshness here, that statistic makes total sense.

The preparation process is straightforward but precise. Seafood is boiled to order, then tossed in sauce so every piece is coated evenly. That might sound simple, but timing is everything. Overcook crab legs by even a minute and the texture turns rubbery. Here, the meat slid cleanly from the shell, which tells me the kitchen understands temperature control and timing-two fundamentals any professional chef will emphasize. I once spoke with a culinary instructor from Johnson & Wales University who explained that seafood cookery relies heavily on moisture retention and quick heat application. You can taste that expertise in every bite.

Beyond the boil, the menu offers fried baskets, po’boys, and sides like corn on the cob, potatoes, and sausage that soak up all that seasoned sauce. On a second visit, I tried the fried catfish basket. The coating was crisp without being greasy, and the fish inside stayed flaky and tender. That balance isn’t accidental; it comes from proper oil temperature management, usually around 350°F, which prevents excess absorption and keeps flavors clean.

Reviews from local diners often mention generous portions, and I can confirm that firsthand. One seafood combo easily feeds two people, especially if you add sides. Families seem comfortable here, and groups celebrating birthdays or casual nights out fill the dining room on weekends. While it’s not a waterfront location, the lively atmosphere almost tricks you into feeling like you’re at a coastal crab shack.

Food safety is another area worth mentioning. Seafood handling requires strict temperature control and sourcing standards. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration provides detailed guidelines for shellfish storage and preparation, and based on the quality and freshness I experienced, the restaurant appears to follow best practices. The crab tasted clean and sweet, without the ammonia smell that signals poor storage. That kind of consistency builds trust.

The Broomfield location is convenient, with easy parking and quick access from surrounding neighborhoods. For locals who don’t want to drive to Denver for a seafood fix, this spot fills the gap. It’s also ideal for takeout; the boil travels surprisingly well, sealed tightly to keep flavors intact. I’ve ordered it to-go for a small gathering, and it held up beautifully, with the sauce still rich and warm when we opened the bag.

What really stands out, though, is the confidence of the kitchen. There’s no attempt to overcomplicate things with trendy plating or unnecessary garnishes. Instead, the focus stays on quality seafood, bold seasoning, and hearty portions. In a landlocked state, delivering that level of freshness requires strong supplier relationships and disciplined kitchen standards. While I can’t personally verify every sourcing detail, the flavor and texture speak volumes.

If you measure a seafood restaurant by freshness, flavor balance, portion size, and overall experience, this one checks the boxes. Whether you’re a seasoned crab-cracking pro or someone trying a seafood boil for the first time, you’ll leave full, maybe a little messy, and already planning your next visit.

  • Looky here, I'm originally from the south. I love cornmeal catfish and I've lost the lost Cajun and golden corral randomly does it. This place has good food. I also like their shrimp basket. It's definitely a deal saying we are in Colorado. I highly recommend this place, they are transparent and I called in to ask questions. They have my devotion. Kudos. I've attached photos*... • Pretty pricey place, but worth taking the wife. I got the squid, mussels, clams, crab and shrimp. I ordered the sauce in hot and it didn’t not disappoint. Oh and don’t be shy put the bib on it’ll save your white shirt. It’s like eating cave man style.

  • Unbelievable this place. I never had a seafood boil like this. Perfect cajun sauce and the amount seafood was perfect. Highly recommended! My family got the hurricane feast and feed all of us five and still left over to take it home.

  • 5 Stars – Authentic Chinese Cuisine Hidden in a Seafood Spot! I must have driven past The Crab House in Bloomfield so many times, never realizing they serve incredibly authentic Chinese dishes alongside their seafood boils. We discovered it through my sister-in-law, who heard about it from her Chinese social group—and we’re so glad we gave it a try as a family. The restaurant is bright, cheerful, and very clean - no fishy smell at all, which was a pleasant surprise for a seafood place. The owner is also the head chef, and his lovely wife Jian took care of us during our meal. She warmly recommended several signature dishes, and we honestly wanted to try them all! She even kindly stopped us from over-ordering, noting that the portions were generous - and she was absolutely right. My absolute favorite was the Triple Delight. The flavors brought me right back to my hometown of Shanghai. The broth was rich and comforting with so many layers of flavors, and the house-made meatballs were tender and delicious! This place is a true hidden gem. Whether you’re in the mood for seafood or craving real Chinese, The Crab House delivers on both!

  • Incredibly kind staff! Our server was very accomodating with our friends allergies and gave us a lot of options to swap different things in the boils. Finding good seafood in Colorado can be difficult, but this is a very worthwhile spot to visit!

  • I found this place on a drive to Denver, so glad I did! I ordered half pound crab half shrimp boil with garlic butter it was delicious! But the shining star of this restaurant is definitely the staff, she was so very sweet and met every need before I even knew I needed it! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves seafood

  • I’ve been here a few times and am so confused as to why it’s so empty!!! Maybe location, because it’s not the food, staff or atmosphere. We do our yearly Christmas office party here and every time it’s absolutely amazing. The staff are also so kind and sweet. At the end when we were leaving, they offered to even take a picture for us and then one of the staff ran back and came out with a crab costume on and posed with us. One of the BEST restaurants EVER

  • Came for lunch. Sort of a hidden gem. Not many people. The food was good. The crab roll was a touch spicy, for me. lol My sister enjoyed hers. Large bar for the smallish restaurant. The atmosphere was fantastic. Clean, bright, and nice seaphere. (new word) Service was 6-7 out of ten. One server should of had 2. OMG the Raspberry cheese cake is fried. OMG It is a must have! The Key lime was good. 10/2/25
